Academy Membership and Guidelines
To participate in this club and its classes there is a $20 a month fee to attend all classes and participate in open spar. There is an alternate $5 drop-in rate for visitors or individuals who cannot commit so much of their time on a regular basis. The Academy will cease collecting this $5 fee once an individual has paid 4 times within the month period. Each participant is required to sign a waiver, and if you are under 18 years-old a parent permission and agreement must also be filled out.
The dues go to paying rent first, and all remaining funds will be spent by the Board to acquire more safety gear, weapons, and materials necessary to run the club. Any Academy member may ask to see receipts or budget balance. Expenditures will be discussed at monthly meetings.
Another focal point of this Academy is creating and building a community. The following guidelines will be expected of all Academy members, visiting participants, and spectators of events. Failure to comply with these Community Standards will be asked to leave the current event area and upon unanimous vote of the Board - severity of the infraction will be discussed - banned from the Academy and its events.
1. No bullying of any kind.
2. No hate speech, racism, sexism, etc. It will not be tolerated. We are all equals.
3. No disrespecting/harassing anyone.
4. No spamming or trolling of any kind.
5. No threatening behavior of any kind.
6. All ages are welcome. Parental or guardian permission is required and a parent or guardian must be present during meets or other official events of the participant is under the age of 18. (this does not include practices)
7. As all ages are welcome please refrain from the use of foul language.
8. Keep any and all comments PG-13 at worst. Since we welcome all ages, and have the potential to be role models, we want to set a good example both at practice and events.
9. No hand to hand combat (grappling, take-downs, or striking with anything other than weapon of choice) - unless otherwise specified in weapon category or upcoming tournament rules, e.g. small-sword.
10. No intentional blows designed to hurt.
11. Fight with honor (be aware your opponent is a human being and remember safety and fun are more important than winning any match or point)
12. No throwing weapons for any reason.
13. No drinking alcohol or drug use before or during any official event
14. No smoking during official events. Kids are impressionable, please take it to a designated smoke area.
15. Please don't use our club platform to push your own club. All clubs are welcome to practice and compete with our club. Membership to a particular local or national group is welcome in this community, but no one may demand or require affiliation to a group to any individual. Note, some tournaments require membership for entry - ours will not save official TSL events we may sponsor.
16. Leave politics and religion out of the community. We are a dueling academy.
17. Any drama that occurs in other Facebook groups, leave it there.
18. If it promotes hate, we will delete any post.
